What this website collects, in plain language.

What we collect

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, organization and message you submit. Our web server also keeps standard access logs (IP address, pages requested, time) for security and troubleshooting.

To keep spam out, the form's server remembers your IP address for up to an hour, to limit how many messages one address can send, and keeps a one-way fingerprint of each message for a day to spot repeats. Messages that look automated are still delivered to us, marked as suspected spam, so that a real message is never lost.

Counting visits

We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics program that we run ourselves on our own server. For each page view it records the page, the site that sent you here (if any), your browser and operating system, a broad screen-size group, and your country, which it works out from your IP address. It sets no cookies. It does not save your IP address with the page view. To tell that several page views belong to one visit, it keeps your IP address and browser details in a temporary list for up to eight hours, then discards them, so it can't recognize you from one day to the next. That list lives in the server's memory and is saved to its database only while the server restarts. We use the figures only to see which pages are useful and how people find us, and no one outside TallyCode receives them.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we don't count your visit at all. If you use the contact form or click our email address, we count that it happened, but not who you are.

What we don't do

This site doesn't use advertising trackers or tracking cookies. Fonts and scripts are served from our own server, so your browser doesn't contact third parties when you visit.

How we use it

We use what you send only to reply to you and to follow up about the work you asked about. We don't sell it or share it for marketing.

Please don't send sensitive data

Don't include protected health information, personal financial information or other sensitive data in the contact form or in email to us before we've agreed how to handle it.
